Growing

You said I had growing up to do,
And though I didn't know it,
You spoke the truth.

Many years have come and passed me by,
Leaving their lessons
And their reasons to cry.

Still I know all things come to pass
So I am leaving behind the child
To become a man at last.

Now that the growing up is done,
I feel no need to rush, no need to run.
Just walk right up, slow and steady
And announce to you, baby, I am finally ready.

Place my finger before your lips.
Shush you, let my confession slip
That we love you still...
After all these years...
After all those tears...
This man and boy always will.
